For years, friends have been saying, “you must visit Blencoe Falls.” So in November this year, I did. After scouting the area in the afternoon, I decided that I would try for a sunrise shot the following morning. It was quite windy that evening so I was worried about using a slow shutter speed in the low light of the early morning. Slow shutter speed means that trees, swaying in the breeze would be blurry and I really want a crisp, sharp image. I camped nearby and set my alarm to allow time for a hot coffee before twilight and made my back to the edge of the gorge to set up. To my surprise, the morning was dead still, not a puff of wind, just the sound of the birds and the distance roar of these magnificent falls. Not only that, but the sky was clear and it soon became apparent that the golden rays of the sun would be penetrating the cool, dark gorge to provide a fleeting moment of magic. This print is in a wide, 2:1 ratio to show the huge expanse of the gorge and is available now in a variety of formats. Custom prints are also available. Shop.
